Before the COVID-19 pandemic, your dental team would clean their instruments, wash their hands, put on a new pair of gloves, and be ready for your appointment. However, much more goes into preparing for your dental visit today! Your South Austin emergency dentist has implemented a variety of extra infection control practices in order to keep you, their staff, and the entire community safe while providing excellent dental care. Here are six ways they prepare for your dental appointment during COVID-19.

1.) ADVANCED STAFF TRAINING

Before their practice decided to reopen, each team member completed additional COVID-19 awareness and prevention training. This important information keeps your dental team up to date and prepared to provide safe treatment during the pandemic.

2.) DAILY TEAM MEMBER HEALTH CHECKS

To ensure every team member is ready and able to keep the practice and their patients safe, their day at the office starts with:

  • A no-touch temperature check.
  • A quick health questionnaire.
  • 20-30 seconds of washing their hands.

3.) CHANGE WORK CLOTHES AT WORK

Previously, your dental team may have worn their scrubs on their way to or back from the office. However, to prevent transferring any germs from the outside, they will only be changing into and out of their newly cleaned scrubs at the practice now.

4.) ADDITIONAL PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

You’ll also notice that your dental team has improved their working wardrobe with additional personal protective equipment like:

  • N95 & ASTM level 3 masks.
  • Face shields.
  • Disposable, protective coats and hats.

5.) DEEP CLEANING EVERY EVENING

Alongside regular cleaning throughout the day and between every patient, the entire practice is disinfected and sanitized top to bottom every night.

6.) CHANGES TO THE RECEPTION AREA

When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll see that there have been some changes to the reception area as well, including:

  • Fewer chairs to encourage social distancing.
  • No magazines or toys to limit frequently touched items.
  • New clear barriers and HEPA air filters to hinder the spread of airborne particles.

While COVID-19 has changed what “normal” dental visits look like, it hasn’t changed your dental team’s commitment to your overall health. If you need dental care after weeks in quarantine, you can rest assured that your South Austin dentist is fully prepared to keep you and your smile healthy during your appointment in the coronavirus pandemic.
